High School Art

Welcome back to school!  I am looking forward to a fantastic year teaching you to enjoy, appreciate, and create art.  Efforts will be made to correlate art lessons with the academic core curriculum.  We will look at and talk about major works/styles of art, as well as create our own masterpieces using the elements and principles of design.  We will study various artists, art styles, and cultures from around the world.

Week of August 22:  Discuss art folder (syllabus, curriculum, classroom procedures, rubric, journals) and develop ideas for first art project.  Signed syllabus, walking and published photo permission slip  is due 8-25-11! 

Weeks of August 29, September 6 and September 12:  Continue work on current portfolio cover project.  Last day in class is Thursday, September 15.  The artist’s statement, project rubric, and portfolio cover will be collected Thursday, September 29.  After that day, 5% off/day will be deducted.

Week of September 19:  Introduction to next project, Pastel Landscapes.  “Third Street Thursday” this week.  We will be visiting the current show at 3rd Street Gallery featuring local artists.

Weeks of September 26, October 3, 10, and 17:  Continue work on Pastel Landscape.  Last day in class is October 20.  You will have two weeks outside of class to finish project if needed.  After that day, 5% off/day will be deducted.

Week of October 24:  Being Decorative/Organic Clay Coil Vessel. 

Weeks of October 31, November 7, 14, 21, 28, and December 5, 12:  Continue Clay Coil Vessel.

*** Parent/Teacher Conferences Thursday, November 3 from 4:30 – 7:00.

Week of November 7:  Sketchbooks are due Monday!  5% off per day late will be given.  Put name on cover of sketchbook and the # of assignment on the bottom corner of each sketch.

Weeks of January 3 and January 10:  Last two weeks for creating clay tiles/plates! 

Weeks of January 17 – March 7:  Relief Linoleum Block Prints – We will be taking digital self-portraits and manipulating these in a photoediting software to create a two-toned composition.  This manipulated photo will then be transferred to a linoleum block for carving using linocutters.  A test print called a proof will be printed and touched-up until you like what you see.  Final prints will be created, a total of 10 needed, 6 for a 3-D “You Cube” and 4-6 for a mosaic.
