Elementary Art
Welcome back to school! I am looking forward to a fantastic year teaching you to enjoy, appreciate, and create art. Efforts will be made to correlate art lessons with the academic core curriculum. We will look at and talk about major works/styles of art, as well as create our own masterpieces using the elements and principles of design. We will study various artists, art styles, and cultures from around the world.
Art is important to Life and Learning!
The arts are a very important area in the total curriculum. The following components explain the vitality of the arts:
- Art is an essential part of the common core of knowledge;
- Art develops aesthetic perception through multi-sensory experiences;
- Art enables students to express their own creativity and to experience satisfaction, accomplishment, and joy;
- Art connects students to their heritage and culture;
- Art develops aesthetic values and provides criteria for making informed judgments;
- Art develops mental skills that are not developed by other disciplines.
As I hope you will agree, the arts play an essential role in educating a well-rounded student. Please feel free to visit your child’s art education class at any time. We do many fun and exciting activities throughout the year. Ask your child about their experiences in art and let them share the knowledge they have learned. Due to the nature of creating art, students should wear old shirts on art days. Please refer to the “Art Schedule” for your child’s art day. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to call/e-mail me at school.
