I don’t care. If Christo wants to put sheet over a canyon, let him. I don’t care what he does with his sheets.

Well like other people I have a very strong opinion on this. Art is amazing yes. But so is the natural beauty that God put on this earth. And covering it and doing what Christo wants to do is, I’m sorry, obsurd. Humans have destroyed and changed so much of this beautiful planet, what is left needs to be left alone. Stick to the art that doesn’t take away beauty but makes it.
Thank You

I fear that it will impact both wildlife and the people who live in the area in a negative way. The $$$ that will be created by tourist will end up in the larger communities for the most part. Nature made that river in a perfect ecosystem. While Man has come to enjoy it through fishing and rafting this seems to corrupt it to me. Perhaps the sheets could be used over I-25 between Pueblo and the Springs. You would get the same effect while remaining true to human achievement instead of trying to trump Mother Nature.

I agree with Kacey! I feel that the art of Colorado is within its natural state and that covering it would be a waste of money and time.

What exactly is it going to accomplish? I think it would be an interesting sight to see, but I also think the Arkansas river is beautiful and unique just all by it’s self. So I guess what I’m trying to say is….. I like to see the river’s raw beauty and although Christo’s proposed project sounds like it could be a rare and radiant piece of art, I believe it’s just a waste of time and money, as many have already said.
Oct 13, 2010 @ 15:11:17
I feel that Christo is wasting his time, but he can do what he wants.
Oct 13, 2010 @ 15:17:55
I like the river the way it is, so Christo should go find another river.
Oct 14, 2010 @ 19:23:00
I think that if he pays for the entire thing himself, let him do it. The only thing is that he would be covering up the river. And I also don’t see what Christo accomplishes by covering the river.
Oct 14, 2010 @ 20:06:50
I think the river’s natural beauty shouldn’t be covered up. Christo is wasting his time and money.
Oct 15, 2010 @ 09:01:13
A really big hammock YAAAAAY!
Good luck with this project Christo.
Oct 19, 2010 @ 23:13:29
I think that it would be an interesting piece of art, I would love to see it if he gets his permits together and whatnot.
Oct 21, 2010 @ 08:33:39
I don’t like the way Christo did this project. The color is the interesting thing about this mood. The thing is that I think it needs to be more about the reality we live in today. The stuff we do is like things that happen in everyday life. Why would he cover the river up anyways? It takes away from everything. It would ruin what we have worked so hard to keep from happening. The living things there would be corrupted.
Oct 21, 2010 @ 08:42:13
I think Christo should do what he wants. I don’t see a point towards this; I don’t even think art is really associated with this idea if he is putting a tarp over the Arkansas.
Oct 25, 2010 @ 10:31:15
So I think that he should do what he wants. I think that it would be cool if that happened because it would be one of a kind.
Oct 26, 2010 @ 09:20:09
I’m going to be up front with my reply. I don’t see any point in the project. My biggest concern with the project is the conflict that it is going to have with the surrounding wildlife. Fish are going to suffer along with the preditors that survive from the fish, such as the bald eagle. Plants are also going to suffer from the lack of sunlight and water. I don’t think it is going to be a good project concering the wildlife.
Oct 26, 2010 @ 09:25:18
Hmm…looks cool. I want to see what the final project of covering the river will look like, but then again, I don’t want to be starring at fabric everytime I pass by.
Oct 26, 2010 @ 09:25:28
I highly disagree!! This will cover up the natural beauty of mother nature. I think it will mess with the biodiversity of the habitat. I think he should go to another state and purpose this idea but not here. It is stupid!!!!!!!!! I think it will help the money problem we have but, I think it will ruin natural beauty.
Oct 26, 2010 @ 10:52:23
This idea is going to be a big waste of time… Covering earth’s natural beauty with a cloth is a horrible idea. He should just leave the rivers alone!!
Oct 26, 2010 @ 11:05:29
I don’t know how someone could even think of something like that to do. But I have to say he has a really creative mind but he is a little weird. You could think of something like that!
Oct 26, 2010 @ 15:47:00
I believe it would be a beautiful piece of art, but the resources needed would be huge and it would impact the environment immensly. I think it would just waste a lot of material that could be used to help someone or something else in need and wildlife would not be able to get the water or food supply needed.
Oct 26, 2010 @ 15:48:02
I think it would be a beautiful project. I’m just concerned about the environment and wildlife but besides that it’s a pretty creative idea.
Oct 27, 2010 @ 08:29:13
Sooooooo……. I think that it may look cool and all but if it effects the wildlife then it’s completely uncool. This project is a very bad idea. Look at all the area it is covering!
Oct 27, 2010 @ 08:30:01
Sooooo, he is wasting his time and I think this is a dumb project. Not only does it effect the wildlife but why would anyone want to put a mat over a river.
Oct 27, 2010 @ 08:51:19
I honestly don’t see what the purpose of this is but a good thing is that he is not using taxpayers money. I also agree with others that covering the river changes the perspective of it.
Oct 27, 2010 @ 08:52:49
Christo should be able to do what he wants, but I think he should make a smaller covered area of the river though. By covering a large stretch he will cause issues for wildlife. If enough sun doesn’t get to the river, the plants in the aphotic zone could die causing the fish and other animals to die. I think that he should think about the wildlife in the area and not just himself! He can do what he wants within reason, and this isn’t within reason!
Oct 27, 2010 @ 22:48:23
This seems like an interesting project and this looks like it would be an exciting view. But, I have to say, I honestly don’t understand what he is trying to do here. Why is he wanting to put luminous fabric panels over the river? Even though I don’t understand why he is doing this and what the point of this project is, I say, just let him do it. If this is something he likes to do and wants to do and is willing to pay for it all, no matter what, let him do it. Maybe he will find a way to show his message to people of why he is doing this or what he is trying to show everyone.
Oct 28, 2010 @ 10:35:34
I think Kacey nailed it on the head! Why try to improve or change what is already beautiful? I don’t want Christo to go through with this.
Oct 28, 2010 @ 10:49:27
I think looking from the river up to the sky, it looks very pretty. But what is the point of using that much material to go over the river? I would think looking at the river would be more pretty.
Oct 28, 2010 @ 15:39:45
I think that it looks fine how it looks because they’re just wasting more time and it would look better if people can actually see the river. I just don’t understand about this whole thing but he can do what he feels like doing as it’s up to him.
Oct 28, 2010 @ 17:04:47
Why would you even want to cover up mother nature? Plants will die and fish will probably end up dead or very scarce. This would be an EPIC FAIL if Christo did this. Don’t destroy the world. I don’t want to see the river fabriced up.

In Concluding this discussion from my vantage it seems that a continued look at the issue is in order. Here is a site that presents another view of the project. http://www.christosrealplan.org/ Look at this and the other sites that Ms. smith has posted to get informed. Time will tell how much of an impact the project will have on our area-both the good and the bad. Keep asking questions-It’s a good thing.
